As promised, book review of "Moon Over Manifest"

This really was a great read. A young girl, Abilene, is sent by her father to live in a tiny Midwestern town during the Great Depression. Following a need to know about her father's past and answer questions about her future, she relentlessly digs into the history of the town of Manifest, Kansas. The stories she discovers in the end are rich with culture, personality, and humanity. The writing is wonderful: "His words drew pictures of brightly painted storefronts and bustling townsfolk. Hearing Gideon tell about it was like sucking on butterscotch. Smooth and sweet. And when he'd go back to not saying much, I'd try recalling what it tasted like." Definitely a book I plan on sharing with my kids when they get a bit older (not because of content at all, just because they may not appreciate the story yet).
